We Welcome Dean Arthur Penn Ramirez

The faculty and staff of the Jack Baskin School of Engineering are pleased to welcome Arthur Penn Ramirez as our new dean. Dr. Ramirez joins Baskin Engineering as we begin our second decade. He will lead a school dedicated to contributing new technologies to the world and preparing graduates to serve the global community.

Dr. Ramirez is a distinguished researcher and has held management positions at Bell Labs and Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research interests include frustrated systems, multiferroic magnetic materials, and organic semiconductors. Dr. Ramirez also has led projects that moved successfully from research into the product development phase, such as a micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) - based magnetometer developed at Bell Labs for applications such as low-cost perimeter security and navigation.

Dr. Ramirez is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics at Yale University.
