Computer Science Graduate student Laura Chiticariu won 1st place in the GHC 2006 ACM Student Research Competition for her poster on "A non-intrusive Data-driven Approach to Debugging Schema Mapping for Data Exchange."

Abstract:

Schema mappings are logical assertions that describe the correspondences between two database schemas. They are fundamental components in both data exchange and data integration. To date, a language for specifying (or programming) schema mappings exists. However, a tool for debugging schema mappings has not yet been developed. We present an approach for debugging schema mappings in which (test) data is used to drive the process of exploring, understanding and refining schema mappings.
