The International Mouse Genome Sequencing Consortium announced the publication of a high-quality draft sequence of the mouse genome, together with a comparative analysis of the mouse and human genomes.

A paper describing the genome and analysis appears in the December 5, 2002 issue of the journal Nature. Co-authors include CBSE Director David Haussler, research scientist Jim Kent, and research team members Terrence Furey, Mark Diekhans, Krishna Roskin, Robert Baertsch, Fan Hsu, Charles Sugnet, Ryan Weber, Donna Karolchik, Angie Hinrichs, and Matt Schwartz.

The publication of the mouse genome sequence has received national press coverage; local press coverage includes the San Francisco Chronicle and the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
