Abstract:
Stories are the most valuable currency of human communication and storytelling has constantly evolved as new technologies have been leveraged in its service. Likewise, computational story generation is evolving as AI techniques expand and improve. This enables new use cases of story generation, such as interaction with sociable agents. However, new methodologies and evaluation metrics are needed to support this expansion of use cases. The methodologies should depend less on a priori domain semantics in order to be generalizable and yet should support telling stories about previous interactions. The evaluation metrics should take the perception of stories into consideration based on empirically evaluated cognitive science research on story interestingness.
