Engineering 2 Building, Jack Baskin School of Engineering

The Baskin School of Engineering is located in the Baskin Engineering and Engineering 2 buildings on the UC Santa Cruz campus. The School includes departments of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS), Biomolecular Engineering (BME), Computational Media (CM), Computer Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE) and Technology Management (TM).

A close interrelationship exists between all departments, and with other divisions of the University. Our collegial atmosphere encourages cooperative interaction. School of Engineering faculty carry out joint research projects with faculty of other divisions and with other universities as well as industry and government research laboratories. Many faculty members supervise students and teach courses in more than one department in the School.

Nearby San Jose, one of the world's foremost centers of the computer industry, is about 45 minutes away from campus. Faculty and students have contact with researchers working at a variety of locations, including Hewlett-Packard, Ricoh, IBM Almaden, NASA Ames Research Center, National Semiconductor Corp., Nokia, Samsung, Via Technologies, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, and Xilinx. A growing local computer industry, centered in Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley, provides opportunities for consulting experience, as well as career possibilities, especially in the software field. Nokia, Seagate Technology, and Silicon Valley Group are among the local companies that are part of the growing Santa Cruz computer industry.
