Research Interests

Increasingly, sensor nodes are storing their observations locally rather than streaming them off to a data sink. SSRC researchers are exploring the trade-offs between energy consumption and security and reliability in these networks. By securing the data, we can prevent intruders from reading already-gathered data and detect data tampering. We are also investigating energy-efficient techniques that spread the data among multiple sensor nodes to survive both individual node failures and the correlated failures common in hostile environments such as volcanoes and battlefields. By using techniques that provide both security and reliability simultaneously, we hope to further reduce the energy requirement for ensuring that stored sensor data remains safe and secure.
