News Update
March 2008 - Finally, I passed the Ph.D. defense on March 14, 2008. It's been a busy one year and finally I made it. Now, I need to make changes to the disseration and that's it. I am very grateful to my advisor Jim Whitehead, my groupmates and my family. Without their support, all this would not be possible. Economy is not showing a good sign right now and I will try to get a job soon possible.
Finally, we implemented a feature modeling language and code generator that produce code based on feature models described using this modeling language. So, a designer can make high level design choices and have the generator create code for him. We applied our platform to online exam system domain and successfully created customized online exam Web applications.
March 2007 - I am approaching the final steps of my graduate study. We decided to change from SCM modeling and generation to a broad topic of variability modeling and I am working on a modeling language and applications. The language draft has been completed and I am focusing on the development work mostly. We went to China last December to visit my family and attend my relative and a friend's wedding. China has been changing so quickly that everytime I went back, there are surprises waiting for me. All my parents' neighbors have sedans, some families have two. People were making a lot of money at the crazy Chinese stock market. Food changes year from year and we saw many strange dishes like soup served in a carved papaya, etc.
Nov 2005 - It's been a long summer and I haven't updated my website for quite some time. I was focusing on the comparison of various SCM features and redesigned the generator architecture. Nov 7-11, we went to Long Beach, CA for the Automated Software Engineering conference which exactly matches my research focus. There have been quite many interesting new ideas and tools presented at the conference and we found similar approaches in code generation to ours. During the break time, we visited famous Queen Mary cruise and Russian submarine, there is also a huge used book store called Acres of Books. Maybe because the city is a big port, we had very fresh and delicious seafood there. Check out some photos at my flicir.
May 2005 - I went to ICSE'05 at St. Louis with Sung, Kai and Jennifer. It was a great trip and nice conference experience. I chatted with many SCM researchers, Jacky Estublier, Walter Ticky, Andreas Zeller, etc., about my thesis topic and got insightful feedback. Code analysis, source code repository data mining are becoming hot topics.
Dec 12, 2004 - After passing the PhD advancement exam, I got a break and reconsider and redesign my personal site using CSS only. The previous site with Flash buttons and annoying frames is still available here.
June - Sep 2004 - I was doing summer intern in content management group in IBM Almaden research center. The work is about business rule processing in business applications.
