Announcements

  • 2 Jun: The final exam due date has been extended to 11:30 PM on Wednesday, June 5th.
  • 2 Jun: The sample LaTeX paper is now available. You'll need to get the compressed tar file with all of the figures to properly run off the document, but you can ignore the figures if you want (they're only there to show how to include pictures).
  • 29 May: The final exam is now available online. It is due on June 5th at 5 PM (by ASCII or PDF email to cmps290s@ethanmiller.com).
  • 27 May: Class will be held in Baskin 308 (the SSRC lab) on Tuesday May 28th, and in Baskin 318 on Thursday, May 30th so that we can use a projector for class presentations.
  • 21 May: A new paper on writing systems papers has been added to the reading list. Please read it and use the advice when writing your own project papers.
  • 21 May: Don't forget that project presentations will be held Tuesday & Thursday of next week. If you want to do your presentation on my laptop, please email it (in PDF and, if you wish, PowerPoint) no later than Monday at 11 PM.
  • 21 May: The final exam will be an optional part of your class participation grade. The (take-home) final will be posted shortly.
  • 8 May: On May 9th, Dr. Jim Gray will lead the discussion. Class will be held in Baskin 318 from 10–11:30 AM (the usual time).
  • 22 Apr: Papers for this week are now online. Papers for next week (April 30 & May 2) will be online by the end of the day.
  • 10 Apr: Sample bibliography files are now available. You can look at csrg.bib, which has a BibTeX bibliography in it, or csrgbib.tex, which can be used to print your entire bibliography. You may need to use abstract.bst (a BibTeX style file) to print out abstracts with your bibliography. There's even a Makefile to show you how this all fits together.
  • 3 Apr: Reminder: project proposals are due (via email) on April 4th.
  • 3 Apr: Readings for the week of April 9th are now available.
  • 26 Mar: There will be no class on Thursday, March 28th.
  • 26 Mar: The papers for next week (April 2 & 4) are now in the reading list and online.
  • 7 Mar: The reading list will be online shortly. Most of the papers on the reading list will be available online to browsers in the ucsc.edu domain.
  • 7 Mar: You may take this class for credit even if you've taken CMPS 290S previously, as long as the topic was different. Those who took CMPS 290S in the fall from Prof. Brandt can take this seminar for credit.
