February 2007: Now I am Associate Professor at EACH-USP.

October 1st, 2006: After a deserved break, I started my pos-doc in Brazil. My current webpage is here.

I just finished my Ph.D. in the Computer Engineering department at UC Santa Cruz, where I started the program in Fall 2001.
My dissertation defense was on June 8th, 2006 (see announcement) and I submitted my dissertation to Graduate Division on June 15th, 2006.
I received a four-year fellowship from CNPq - Brazil to support my studies at UCSC, and from September 2005 until June 2006, I worked as a GSR.

Bio

I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Computer and Digital Systems from USP -  Brazil (University of São Paulo) in December/1997.
Then, in March/1998, I started my Master's studies in Computer Networks at USP. My advisor was Professor Graça Bressan, and my thesis was "A Secure Video Distribution Mechanism". I earned my M.Sc. degree in December/2000.
Along with my Master studies, I have worked at LARC - USP (Laboratory of Computer Architecture and Networks) as Engineer, Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. The projects I worked on included: network security, network management, distance / online learning, and Voice over IP. I also was TA in Networks Lab, besides teaching the Cisco Network Academy Program at LARC-USP. You can check what I have done there at my old webpage (oops, it is in Portuguese).

Research

I am part of the Inter-Networking Research Group (i-NRG), headed by my advisor Professor Katia Obraczka.
My research is about Energy Consumption Trade-offs in Power Constrained Networks.
My publications are listed here, where you will also find my Ph.D. thesis.
Downloads can be checked here.

TA at UCSC

Fall 2001: CE100 - Logic Design, Professor Tracy Larrabee.
Winter 2002: CE12C - Introduction to Computer Organization, Cyrus Bazeghi

Fall 2002: CE100 - Logic Design, Bob Vitale, & CE250 - Multimedia Systems, Professor Roberto Manduchi.

About me

I am Brazilian and I was born and lived most of my life in Sao Paulo, SP. Portuguese is my native language (yeah, Brazil is in South America and the country was colonized by Portugal in 1500, so that is why we speak Portuguese).
You can find some information about Brazil in the website from the embassy.
I enjoy reading, hiking, biking, swimming, scuba diving and caving and, of course, hanging out with my friends. Now I am also practicing yoga (or at least trying to).

Engineering Associations

As of May 19th, 2004 the School of Engeineering formed its student association: EGSA (Engineering Graduate Students Association). The EGSA webpage is here.

During Spring 2004, women in SoE formed eWomen!
