Gene Recognition by computers

Generally, two methods have been used to find genes using computers. One method locates promoter regions and splice junctions using neural networks (signals) [8,3,9]; the other, building score functions on sequences to determine the coding regions (content). For example, Staden and McLachlan [16,15] proposed that deviation from average codon usage could be used to find coding regions.
