This list of meetings includes several seminars, panels, CEFULs (Computer Engineering Faculty Undergraduate Lunch), and J-FULs (Joint EE/CE Faculty Undergraduate Lunches) wherein contact between undergraduates and faculty members or professionals is facilitated.

  • 2001-2002, Spring
    • 4/20/02 UCSC Spring Fair: advising fair, posters, panels and tours to help prospective students and their parents decide if they wish to come to UCSC. CE faculty in attendance: Luca de Alfaro, Joel Ferguson, Richard Hughey, Kevin Karplus, Tracy Larrabee, Patrick Mantey. EE faculty in attendance: Claire Gu, Steve Kang, Ken Pedrotti, Hamid Sadjadpour, Ali Shakouri. Ali Shakouri gave a tour of his Quantum Electronics Lab.

    • 6/21/02 Freshman Orientation: Seminar introducing new students to CE. CE faculty in attendance: Kevin Karplus, Tracy Larrabee. EE faculty in attendance: Ken Pedrotti.
    • 6/22/02 SOE Transfer Orientation Session: Seminar helping transfer students decide on their classes and get their JC courses transferred efficiently. In addition to the undergraduate advising staff, SOE Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs (and CE faculty member) Joel Ferguson also attended.
    • 6/25/02 Freshman Orientation: Seminar introducing new students to CE. CE faculty in attendance: Kevin Karplus, Tracy Larrabee. EE faculty in attendance: Peyman Milanfar.
    • 6/26/02 SOE Transfer Orientation Session: Seminar helping transfer students decide on their classes and get their JC courses transferred efficiently.   • 2002-2003, Fall
    • 9/16/02 CE Freshman Orientation: a seminar where the members of the undergraduate advising department talk to freshmen about requirments, major declaration, registering for classes, and a host of other issues as needed. As an experiment, only staff attended this function. We will not do this in the future; we will go back to faculty attendance at initial orientations.
    • 9/21/02 CE Core exam administered (24 students took the exam and 14 passed). CE faculty in attendance: Pak Chan, Glen Langdon
    • 10/02/02 CEFUL: Graduate Studies. CE faculty in attendance: Martine Schlag, Anujan Varma, Kevin Karplus. EE faculty in attendance: Claire Gu.

    • 10/18/02 Group Advising: Undergraduate office staff help students plan their schedules, choose advisors, and prepare their admission to the major packets

    • 10/22/02 CEFUL: Undergraduate Research. Ten research posters were presented from CS, CE, and EE. CE faculty in attendance or working as poster advisors: Tara Madhyastha, Martine Schlag, Richard Hughey, Tracy Larrabee, Kevin Karplus. EE faculty in attendance or working as poster advisors: Ali Shakouri.

    • 11/14/02 50 students from San Joaquin Valley magnet school centered on science and technology recieve speeches from various UCSC faculty. CE faculty in attendance: Tracy Larrabee.
    • 11/19/02 CEFUL: Surveilance. CE faculty in attendance: Richard Hughey, Tracy Larrabee, Roberto Manduchi, Tracy Larrabee.
  • 2002-2003, Winter
    • 1/2/03 CE-EE orientation meeting for entering students. CE faculty in attendance: Tracy Larrabee. EE faculty in attendance: John Vesecky.
    • 1/4/03 CE Core exam administered (14 students took the exam and 3 passed). CE faculty in attendance: Pak Chan, Glen Langdon
    • 1/15/03 J-FUL: Chatting about EE, CE, how they are the same, and how they are different. CE faculty in attendance: Richard Hughey. EE faculty in attendance: John Vesecky, Claire Gu, Ali Shakouri. Student attendees had several suggestions for the two departments. Among them were formal evaluation forms for tutors and sending peer advisors to all 10 colleges during the first week of fall quarter.
