ABET DOCUMENTS
- Missions and Objectives
- The University of California Mission Statement and the The UCSC School of Engineering Mission Statement
- The CE Mission Statement and the CE Objective, which have to appear in print.
- The EE Mission Statement and the EE Objective, which have to appear in print.
- Coursework for all of our courses is available from this website. You can view the coursework indexed by the outcomes we believe the courses support, or you can view the coursework indexed by course number. Following either index will give you much more information than just coursework examples: you will find out exactly how each course contributes to the outcome, what lab facilities each course uses, and what our feedback mechanisms for our outcomes are.
- In order to show that we have a good curriculum and a good program,
we had to show how our program produces students who fulfill
these outcomes:
- Outcome a: an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
- Outcome b: an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
- Outcome c: an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs
- Outcome d: an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
- Outcome e: an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- Outcome f: an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
- Outcome g: an ability to communicate effectively
- Outcome h: the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context
- Outcome i: a recognition of the need for, and the ability to engage in, life-long learning
- Outcome j: a knowledge of contemporary issues
- Outcome k: an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
- In addition to the outcomes, We also need to show how students fullfill
certain Professional Components:
- Students must be prepared for engineering practice through the curriculum culminating in a major design experience based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work and incorporating engineering standards and realistic constraints that include most of the following considerations: economic; environmental; sustainability; manufacturability; ethical; health and safety; social; and political
- Component requirement A: one year of a combination of college level mathematics and basic sciences (some with experimental experience) appropriate to computer and electrical engineering
- Component requirement B: one and one-half years of engineering topics, consisting of engineering sciences and engineering design appropriate to computer and electrical engineering
- Component requirement C: a general education component that complements the technical content of the curriculum and is consisten with the UCSC objectives, the School of Engineering objectives, and the computer and electrical engineering objectives
- Here are the CE metrics
for evaluating how we are doing on each outcome and the
EE Feedback loops.
- For each of our required courses we have listed the extended course description, which outcomes it helps to fullfill, sample coursework, and if it has an associated lab, information about where that lab is and what resources are available there. We also have a quicklink to just the course descriptions, and one to a description of our lab facilities.
- We found the process of determining how we fulfilled our outcomes to be one that involved the entire faculty.
- Use this form to evaluate how different courses of study in CE or EE fullfill ABET outcomes.
- Some important links having to do with feedback mechanisms for continuous program improvement
- A survey for CE and EE alumni who graduated four years ago.
- An exit survey for graduating seniors.
- The CE core exam.
- The CE porfolio and how it is evaluated.
- Here are bios for our key personnel and the UCSC organization chart.
- ABET is interested in significant interactions with our constituents as
- students,
- potential employers of our students, and
- alumni
- Here is the CE annual outcome assessment report.
- There are many helpful SOE student organizations that increase the quality of life and education for our students.
- The SOE ABET tasks, their due dates, and who is responsible,
as well as a partial list of internal CE and EE meetings important to the ABET process.- You can send email to soeabet@soe.ucsc.edu
