Hello Lucia,

The "Alt Events -Alternative Splicing, Alternative Promoter and Similar
Events in UCSC Genes" track might be useful to you. This track shows
various types of alternative splicing and other events that result in
more than a single transcript from the same gene.

If you open the human hg18 Genome Browser to the gene you are interested
in, you can turn on the Alt Events track to see what information there
is in that region.

Here is an example session:
http://genome.cse.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTracks?hgS_doOtherUser=submit&hgS_otherUserName=Kayla&hgS_otherUserSessionName=hg18%2Dkayla%2DaltEvents

There is not a way to tell whether a gene is a splice variant just by
looking at the UCSC Genes ID.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please don't hesitate to
contact us again if you require further assistance.
