Hello David,

I don't have any specific information on using Matlab to access our
public MySQL database, but perhaps I can still help. I assume you are
already looking at the instructions on our FAQ page:

http://genome.ucsc.edu/FAQ/FAQdownloads#download29

The user 'genome' does not require a password. (The user 'genomep' was
set up to require a password and to be added to a configuration file for
access from tools in the Kent source tree.)

I suggest trying user 'genome' with no password.
