Dear Leonard,
The settings that you used are stored in a cart. As you use the Genome
Browser, you will see that sometimes a hgsid appears in the URL - the
hgsid refers to the settings that you use. If at some point you selected
Mouse Mar 2005 for Blat and then sometime later returned to the Blat
interface, then you will see Mar 2005 as the default. Your student still
has Feb 2006 as her default and when you use her link, you are using her
hgsid and therefore her settings.
You can get back to the original default settings by doing a cart reset.
The default assemblies are the latest assemblies which, for mouse, is Feb.
2006. A cart reset can be done by following the Genomes link on the top
menu bar and clicking on the "Click here to reset" link below the menus
for selecting the genome and assembly. Alternatively, you can just use
this URL:
http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/cartReset
I hope that this helps you. Please let us know if you have further
questions.
