Dean's Newsletter - April 2008
Dear Friends of Baskin Engineering,
As we're now settled into the Winter Quarter and with our Spring Quarter approaching, there is much to report and still much more to be excited about here at Baskin Engineering. Many new faces, programs, and initiatives add to our usual level of activity and happenings on campus.
We've welcomed new faculty - their profiles appear in this edition of the newsletter - who join our already deep roster of passionate educators and researchers. Their talents and expertise will strengthen our core disciplines and will prepare our graduates for the challenges they will face in the fields that will change the world.
We're currently undergoing several departmental searches for new faculty and it is exciting to see these bright, talented candidates visit the Baskin School. I look forward in another e-newsletter introducing this year's new hires to all of you.
Baskin Engineering celebrated this year's National Engineers Week with many activities which included our student organizations recruiting new members. Hosts of several events during the week, The Undergrad Advising Office drew many MESA students to the building for an afternoon reception and a chance to mingle with fellow students, faculty, and staff. And, on Wednesday, February 20th, we held our first National Engineers Week reception with all our students and faculty. It was a wonderful turnout and an event we hope to host each year.
The campus is finalizing the search for the Baskin School of Engineering dean. To check the status of the search, please visit: http://soeds.ucsc.edu/
As I write, several departments are participating in external reviews and I'm most certainly encouraged by the process. The guidance we receive is instrumental in achieving our many goals for the institution and I'm grateful for the preparation, effort, and cooperation shown by all of those involved.
I look forward to the coming months and to what will surely be even more activity. As always, I value your continued involvement with Baskin Engineering and appreciate your friendship.
Yours,
Michael Isaacson
