Hotel Reservations
We have negotiated with the Stanford Court Hotel a special rate of
$135 ($165 for deluxe rooms) for CONCUR (and for all affiliated
events). To obtain this rate, please call 800-622-0957 or one of the
Marriott's
worldwide reservation numbers, and mention that the reservation is
for the CONCUR event.
Reserve early: the number of rooms at this rate is limited, and the
regular rate is considerably higher!
Next door to the conference hotel is the
Intercontinental
Mark Hopkins Hotel.
There are many hotels within walking distance of the conference venue;
you can find them using
Google
Local Search,
as well as via other on-line hotel reservation systems.
For your reference, the conference hotel is on the South side of

Travel to CONCUR 2005
Unless you live close to the San Francisco Bay Area, the best is to
fly to San Francisco International
Airport (SFO) or, as a slightly less optimal alternative, to
Oakland International
Airport (OAK).
OAK is slightly farther away from San Francisco than SFO, but both
airports work well.
The easiest way to get from either airport to the hotel is to take a
door-to-door van.
These are vans that load several passengers at once, and then drop
them off one by one at their desired destinations.
A door-to-door van from SFO to San Francisco is around $15 (remember
to tip the driver); from OAK it is slightly more expensive.
You could also fly to San Jose
Airport (SJC), but SJC is farther from San Francisco than the
other two airports, and the fare for a door-to-door van from SJC to
San Francisco is $69-$79.
The San Francisco Airport has two levels: a lower level, for arrivals,
and an upper level, for departures. The door-to-door vans depart from
the upper level (the departure level, logically enough - even if it is
arriving passengers that usually wish to depart in the vans).
This means, in practice, that when you arrive you should not dash out
of the terminal doors, but rather, you should go up to the upper
level, and go out of the doors to the road at that level.
Usually, there is an airport employee that directs passengers to the
appropriate door-to-door vans for their destinations: there are many
van companies, and not all of them serve all destinations. If in
doubt, ask the driver.
More adventurous people may want to investigate taking the BART or other public
transport.
Getting Around in San Francisco
Having a car in San Francisco during CONCUR 2005 is not necessary, as
the conference venue is close to a great variety of restaurants, and
as you can get around using public
transport.
The conference venue is along the famous Cable
Car line.
Indeed, a car can be an inconvenience, as parking is either expensive,
or difficult. Parking at the hotel parking lot is around
$35/night; you can find cheaper parking in various parking structures
around the city center. You can also try to park your car overnight
in free spots around the city; this may require patience, and
willingness to walk several blocks.
