Think of the term paper as your product, with the first and
second drafts (although they are on different topics) being, respectively,
alpha and beta prototypes. We have used a hybrid development process combining
“technology-push” (since you choose the topics) with “market-pull” (the
instructor being the customer, reasonably satisfied with the prototypes, but
requiring modifications). As one of you stated very simply and succinctly in
the opening sentence of one draft, “Technology pushes and market pulls”. You
have also used an “evolutionary approach”, working in well-defined smaller
steps (prototypes) to finally produce a high-quality end product that satisfies
the customer. You can take this experience with you to other tasks, projects,
and problems.
