ISM 101: Instructions for the Final Version of your term paper

§         Think of the term paper as your product, with the first and second drafts (although they are on different topics) being, respectively, alpha and beta prototypes. We have used a hybrid development process combining “technology-push” (since you choose the topics) with “market-pull” (the instructor being the customer, reasonably satisfied with the prototypes, but requiring modifications). As one of you stated very simply and succinctly in the opening sentence of one draft, “Technology pushes and market pulls”. You have also used an “evolutionary approach”, working in well-defined smaller steps (prototypes) to finally produce a high-quality end product that satisfies the customer. You can take this experience with you to other tasks, projects, and problems.

§         Complete Part 1: Refine and expand your first draft (Topic A) based on my feedback and suggestions. Structure it along the guidelines recommended (see 11/19/03 in-class handout) for your second draft, i.e., divide the paper into numbered sections with section titles, etc. Give this part of your term paper the title: “Part A: (enter your own title for this part)”

§         Your second draft will be returned to you in class on Dec. 3. Then complete Part 2: refine and expand your second draft (Topic B) based on my feedback and suggestions. Give this part of your term paper the title: “Part B: (enter your own title for this part)”

§         Conclude the term paper with a very creative short paragraph showing the connections and relationships between the two parts within the context of the development, management, and commercialization of technology. Give this paragraph the title: “Part C: Integration”

§         Hand in the final version of your term paper to me (office: JB 156) either on Friday, Dec. 5 between 2 PM – 4PM, or on Monday, Dec. 8 between 2PM – 4 PM.
