Course Description:
This course is an introductory survey of the use of Information Systems in business enterprises. We study how organizations can use information systems to improve efficiency and enable new ways of doing business. Students should gain an understanding of how information systems technologies are designed to support business applications. We will study examples both of how business needs can drive the development of new technology and also of how advances in technology can drive changes in business. Students should also gain a conceptual understanding of the basic building blocks of information system technology, such as database management, and network architecture. Such an understanding will enable them to identify existing technologies or conceptualize new technologies that meet particular business needs.
