Please note that the omnilock for the EE 70 lab is currently not functioning. To gain access to the lab, see someone in facilities (BE 57). Lab hours will only be between 8 am and 5 pm until this lock is fixed, which may take up to 24 hours.

Lab Report 5 is due June 7, (5pm Monday). Please drop your report in the box outside BE268.

In lab5 Part 2: Design of an audio filter, you need to use amp to make the speaker work (make sure start with a very small input voltage, because the amp gain is big). This part is compulsory. The volume controlled discman related contents will be considered as extra credits for your lab 5.

Lab Report 4 is ready to pick up in lab BE113.

In lab5 Part 2: Design of an audio filter, 2: Audio filter part C need the volume-controlled discman output. If you cannot find discman, you may use other source. The one to use discman is optional

The lab report 1 & 2 grades curves are posted.

Tam will run Wednesday lab section, Rui will run Thursday lab section this week. Lab report 4 is due this Thursday.

The lab report 2 is ready to pick up in lab BE113.

There are some mistakes in Lab 3 handout. For the charging cycle the capacitor voltage is given by VC(t)=V0(1-e-t/tau) and for the discharging cycle it is given by VC(t)=V0e-t/tau The more accurate way to determine the time constant for the discharging cycle is to plot the same data on a semi log-scale, i.e. plot ln(VC,ave) (natural log) versus t. In this case, the discharging circle ln(VC)=ln(V0e-t/tau)=ln(V0)-t/tau.

Due to the recently concluded midtern and the request from some students, the deadline to submit lab 3 report has been extended to Friday 5pm. Please hand in your report during the lab section or drop it in BE268 before 5pm Friday.

The lab session for April 15th (Th 12-2 pm) has been changed to 4-6 pm. An additional session with the TA (Tam) will be available on Friday from 2 to 4 pm if you cannot make the revised time. Thursday lab sessions resume at their normally scheduled time (i.e. 12 to 2 pm) next week. Contact Tam (tnguyen@ucsc.edu) if there are additional conflicts.

         Lab 1 report is due April 16th.  Please try to hand in your report on Thursday's  lab section.

Two TA's will be in charge of EE 70 labs. In addition to Rui Li, Tam Nguyen (also the tutor for this class) will be TA'ing this class. Rui will run Wednesday lab sessions, while Tam will run Thursday lab sessions.

Labs will be graded as follows:

• Pre-labs and Labs 1, 2, and 4: Rui
• Pre-labs and Labs 3 and 5: Tam

Please contact either TA if you have further questions.

According to the on-line schedule of classes, the EE 70/L lab is now full. If you still need to add into the lab, you will now need to get a permission code from me. This will involve filling out a prequisite waiver form (see Syllabus). You will also need to show me proof of enrollment in EE 70. A printout of your current class schedule this quarter should suffice.

If you added late into the lab (on or after 3/24), and you want an access code for the lab, read through some of the previous announcements regarding this issue. Proof of enrollment can be a printout of your current schedule of classes.

EE 70 lab times will be Wednesday from 1 pm or 3 pm or Thursday from 12 noon to 2 pm. You can choose which lab section to attend. Lab start up next week, so make sure to go to a lab session starting next week.

A list of students authorized to receive lab codes for the EE 70 lab is now available. This list is based on the preliminary class list, which was generated on 3/25. If you added on or after this date, your name may not appear. You will need to show me proof that you are enrolled in EE 70/L in order to be added to the list. Please carefully read the instructions for getting a lab code (see announcement below) before going to get one.

All lab documentation (under "Course Materials") should now be viewable. A tentative lab schedule (with due dates for labs and pre-lab writeups) can also be found below.

Based on the scheduling form you fill out on the first day of class, you will be assigned to a specific lab day and time. If you want to change lab sections after you have been assigned to a lab, talk to the TA, not Cliff.

If you want to use the EE 70L lab outside of scheduled lab hours, you can get a key code at BE 57. Key codes are ONLY available between 1 pm and 3 pm Monday thru Friday. Do not try to go at another time to get a code, because you won't get one. Before you go to BE 57, you should also make sure your name is on the list of authorized users (at the bottom of the page). Otherwise, you will not get a code. This list will be available after the first week of class. You must be officially enrolled in the class in order to receive a code. If you enrolled late, please show me proof of enrollment before going to BE 57. Keep in mind that EE 171 also uses the lab, and you will be asked to leave if they have a scheduled lab session.

Lab sessions are completely run by the TA. You can address any problems or issues you have with the lab with the TA (preferred) or myself. Unless otherwise stated, attendance of lab sessions is mandatory.

I strongly recommend that you photocopy all lab reports and pre-labs before submitting them for grading. There have unfortunately been cases of fraud and theft of lab reports in the past.
