CMP243 Text and reserve list

This year the text for CMP is a draft of a new book by Graeme Mitchison, Sean Eddy, Anders Krogh and Richard Durbin. We will be getting draft chapters in installments from them, and reproducing them. You can also retrieve the individual chapters in postscript if you see me for a password. (You need a newer printer to print these postscript files. In CSE, the "coffee" printer works.) In addition to this text, a number of books have been put on reserve in the Science Library, from which there may be required reading assignments. These are also available to students for further research into the topic they choose for their project.

I also ordered an optional additional text, entitled "Introduction to Computational Biology: Maps Sequences and Genomes" by Michael Waterman, Chapman and Hall, 1995. This text is not required for the course, and the bookstore has only a few copies. I also put a copy on reserve in the Science Library. It is a good book on the mathematical foundations of the algorithms used to determine and analyze biosequences. Material relevant to our course is contained in chapters 8-14, but many of the topics in these chapters will not be covered.
