Choose only one of the following assignments:

Option 1

Select three questions from one course in the Exam Question List at http://www.cse.ucsc.edu/classes/cscomp. You might want to place emphasis on courses you are TAing now or think you are interested in TAing in the future.

For each of these questions do the following:

1. Identify what goals the question is supposed to assess. These goals may be outlined in extended course descriptions (available for some classes in the CS comp at http://www.soe.ucsc.edu/~larrabee/abet/descriptions/) or in the syllabus for the course.

2. Write one or more multiple choice questions to replace the question. If a multiple choice question is not sufficient to assess the objective, explain why.

Option 2

Write a one page reaction to one of the ethical dilemmas discussed in class (you may also choose a situation we did not discuss, but you must get approval from the TA first, who will ensure that the situation does in fact constitute an ethical conundrum). In your reaction you should discuss the ethical issues raised and how you would react if you were involved in the dilemma. If appropriate you should also discuss the opposing views, ie the reactions you do not feel are the ethical ones.

• Software copying, ie copyright infringement. This can also include recording rights and mp3s if you wish.
• onlineethics.org: Contains many case studies, including the one involving co-author credit. Look under the computers and software, responsible research, and engineering practice tabs for case studies and scenarios.
• National Institute for Engineering Ethics: Another resource chock full of case studies.
