There are three kinds of analysis assignments. In game session logging assignments, students play a computer game, then write down their experience. By doing this, students become more self-reflective about their game play, and must develop a vocabulary for describing elements of game play. In the game ontology analysis assignment, students reflect on an ontology of game design elements by adding strong and weak examples to existing game design elements. In the multi-game analysis assignment, students write a short essay reflecting on how three games compare in their approach to a common design challenge.
