How to Create Your Project Workspace and Discussion Thread
  1. Log into omidyar and go to the course workspace: http://www.omidyar.net/group/cmps80j/ws/index/.

  2. Click on the "Example Template for Workspace Page."

  3. Click on the "page" tab, and then select "plain text."

  4. What you will get is a plain text version of the whole workspace. Go to your browser menu and click on "Edit," "Select All", and then "Edit" and "Copy."

  5. Press your browser's back button, click on the "workspace" tab, and then select "new page."

  6. Type in your project title. (Note: Remember that your project title must follow this format: 'Project: Project Title')

  7. Click "Edit this page."

  8. Click on the textbox under "Edit this text" and then click "Edit" on your browser menu and "Paste."

  9. The plain text you copied earlier should now appear in the textbox. Save this page. Your workspace is now created!

  10. Go back to the main workspace page: http://www.omidyar.net/group/cmps80j/ws/index/.

  11. Click on the "edit" tab for this page.

  12. Insert a link to your workspace page by entering an asterisk, followed by the exact name of your workspace title within ` marks (this is located above your tab key) and an underscore immediately after it. Basically, you should follow the same format of the other project links already on the workspace, but change the project title to your own.

  13. Click the discussions tab, create a new topic, and give it the same exact title you gave your workspace. This has created the discussion thread required for your project (be sure to add information about your project here). Copy the URL for this discussion.

  14. Go back to your workspace by clicking the link you just made from the main workspace page. Once you are at your workspace, click the "edit" tab and modify the area indicated by replacing the existing URL with your discussion URL. Don't forget to save your changes!
