Evaluation:

An overall 65 percent of the total evaluation points will be considered minimal passing with a required minimum of 50% of EACH of the four aspects of the class being necessary but not sufficient to pass the class. In addition, more that four unexcused absences from labs will result in a NOT PASSING grade. Excused absences must be arranged in advance.

The labs are designed to be a noncompetitive working environment (relax - do not stress). For these labs, you are encouraged to work together and ask questions of one another. To maintain this atmosphere, your lab grade is based 40 percent on attendance, 40 percent on preparation and 20 percent on what you actually accomplish. The 40 percent on attendance should be obvious. The 40 percent on preparation is based on the ‘Lab Preparation’ sheets that you will find in the lab manual and that you turn in AT THE START of lab to receive credit. You should think of these lab preparations as homework assignments due at the start of lab. They should be fairly easy to complete if you read the material in the text and read through the lab directions in the lab manual. The 20 percent for what you complete is based on the material you turn in at the end of each lab (as instructed in the lab manual). Thus you can get 80 percent by just coming to lab prepared. You also lose approximately 5.5 percent of the lab portion of the grade for each missed lab.
