During the first few days of classes you will receive a three digit grade ID. You must memorize it and place it in the upper right hand side corner of every exam or assignment you turn in (every page included). You will not be assigned a grade unless you use this ID to identify your work. You must also include your name. You must keep your grade ID confidential as it will be used to access your grade via the WWW. Grading of work without grade IDs will be delayed until the end of the semester. (See also Regrades below)
Due dates and exam dates are not to be changed unless you have a major medical reason. No recovery exams or homeworks will be given. Midterm and final exam dates are provided to you during the first class of the semester, if you foresee conflicts either with your personal plans or other classes you must register in another section. Generally, Quizes will be announced in class, at least one class before they are given. Sometimes, a surprise Quiz may be given.
Grades will be assigned as described below.
All homeworks and projects assigned in class are due one week after they are assigned unless stated otherwise. Late turnins are UNACCEPTABLE and will get NO CREDIT at all. Although previously late turnings will get some credit (but not all), some students---even the ones that benefit from the rule---complained about other students having an UNFAIR chance to catch up with their grades.
You are fully responsible for checking the class web-site or electronic bulletin board for news and announcements. You should do this at least once every two days. Important notices regarding your class will be posted there and you need to be up to date on these. Examples of the type of notices posted there include: exam schedule changes, quiz announcements, homework announcements, and others. If you miss an exam, homework, quiz, etc because you did not check the web site regularly, you will not be entitled to a new exam, homework, quiz, etc scheduled just for you.
There are several extra-credit actitivities scheduled in this class: you are strongly advised to use those opportunities to cover for unforeseen events (other than medical reasons) that may force you to miss quizes or homeworks in the future.
During each exam sign up lists will be passed around for you to print your name and sign. It is your responsibility to sign this list before your list: this list will be used among other things to determine if you were present during a given exam in the unlikely event that your exam paper gets lost. existing proof you were in class at the time of the exam will help in resolving this type of situations. If you fail to sign the exam attendance list you will waive your rights to claims regarding your test being lost and such situation is equivalent to not attending the test. Rational: some students may have used such approach in the past to get make up exams without having medical reasons, this si very unfair to students that attend scheduled activities as required.
You must keep electronic record of homeworks submitted. To cover for the unlikely event in which your homework submission gets lost you must email the md5sum of your homework file to md5sumwinter07@yahoo.com on or before the due date. Only if you do that you earn the right to resubmit your original submission for full credit. The resubmission must be electronic and the md5sum of the resubmitted file must match that of the records kept in the md5sumwinter07@yahoo.com email inbox. Not submitting the md5sum for your assignment or sending it late waives your right to any claim on lost homework papers. You can obtain md5sum for windows at http://www.etree.org/md5com.html or using google.
They *must* not be parked by any exit door of the classroom: they may prevent/slowdown exit from the classroom should an emergency arise (i.e. quake, fire, etc).
