Statistics (third edition). D. Freedman, R. Pisani and R. Purves. Norton & Company.
Grading: The course work will be weigthed as follows: Quizes 40%, Midterm 30%, Final 30%. A 5% bonus will be added to the final grade of students that attend the sections actively and regularly.
There will be one midterm (30%, 02/08/05) and one final (30%, W 03/16/05, 12-3 PM).
Quizes
There will be six quizes that will be held in class on: 01/18/05; 01/25/05; 02/01/05; 02/22/05; 03/01/05 ; 03/08/05. The first four quizzes are mandatory, the last two are optional.
There will be no make-up for quizes. Out of the six quizzes, your two lowest scores will be dropped to allow for ANY event that might prevent you from taking a particular quiz.
Homework: There will be regular homework assignements, which will mostly consist of exercises from the textbook. Homework will not be collected. The problems in the quizzes will be very similar to homework problems. The solutions to the homework will be discussed in the sections.
Sections: Attendance to the sections is mandatory. Quizzes and exams will be returned during sections. There will be a 5% bonus over the total final score that will be assigned by the TAs to students that attend regularly and participate in the disussions.
