wasn’t enough for some students) but this tough final showed that every
single student developed good math skills. You can feel very proud of your work
regardless of your score.
3-19:
Reminder: please don’t forget to return the midterms (if you have them)
by tomorrow after the test. You can just drop them into the drop off box.

Solutions to practice final exam are given below.

3-13: Calendar for remaining days of
the quarter:
Fri (3-14) – Regular office hour, homework 9
is due at 5pm.
Mon (3-17) – Last day of instruction, sections
will take place, homework 10 is due at 5pm
Tue (3-18) – Bruno will hold an office hour
from 11 to 12pm
Wed (3-19) – Jing will hold an office hour
from 3 to 4pm
Thu (3-20) – Bruno will hold an office hour
from 11 to 12pm
Fri (3-21) – Final exam from 4 to 7pm in the
same room as class.
Mon (3-24) – We hope final exam results will
be available. In the evening a provisional final score will be posted. Students
who want extra credit for homework should send an email to Jing saying they
need to have their final score to be put on hold until March 31st.
Mon (3-31) – Jing will be available from 10 to
12pm to look at late homework and give credit for them.
3-10: Practice final is available
below.
3-10: Midterm 2 scores below. Everyone
should have a careful review of this midterm; we strongly advise a review
together with either Bruno or Jing to see which parts of the material you still
need to work on. There’s some work to be done in the coming days, but we
are very confident every one will do well in the final; we are seeing a lot of
people coming to lectures, office hours and working hard and this is the right
direction to go.
3-2: Extra office hour tomorrow
(Monday, 3-3) will be held by Bruno (either at his office or at Jack’s
Lounge) from 5 to 6pm. The students who asked for a meeting on Monday can come
over then too.
2-26: Today’s class: Bruno will show how we can apply
exponential functions to help you figure out how much you can save in a typical
savings account and also how to figure out your debt in, for instance, a credit
card. We will continue our exploration of the basic trigonometric functions
too, with a lot of examples of the typical problems you should expect to find
in our exams.
2-24: Thanks for the very informative
feedback you gave in the mid-quarter
evals (if you didn’t have the chance to fill one, you can download it here). Bruno was very happy to learn about the
ways he can make the lectures more useful to you; there will be important
changes to the number and usefulness of examples given in class and closer
attention will be paid to make them less boring too! Our main goal is always to
help you get a great score in this class and simultaneously to enjoy some of
the cool aspects of math. So far, Bruno is very impressed with your commitment
to the class (it’s been outstanding so far, truly) and it’s been a
true pleasure to work with you.
2-19: IMPORTANT: adjustment is made in
the class calendar and list homework problems. Please check the updated
versions below.
2-19: There have been some
adjustments to the midterm scores (two mistakes in the grading process), please
check how your grade was affected below.
2-19: Congratulations to the students
that have already sat down and looked carefully at their midterms! Let’s
keep that good habit and apply it to homework too!
2-13:
Problem with midterm scores list is solved, it’s back online.
2-11: Midterm scores list is available
below. Two comments: 1) We don’ curve the test scores because we want you
to have an honest idea of how you are doing in the class, 2) No need to freak
out if you had a low score, keep a cool head and arrange a meeting with either
Bruno or Jing to see exactly what went wrong, question by question. We will
help you figure out what’s going on and also planning to improve for the
second midterm.
2-11: We are having some trouble with
the homework score file, you will not be able to read for a while.
2-11: Section 12.2. of the book is
available below.
2-1: Extra tutoring services at https://eop-apps.ucsc.edu/OTSS/tutorsignup/.
31-1: Our graders are informing us the level
of proficiency in Appendix B is very low. Most of the students need to go
over it again! Great review sessions at the Arc center.
