Welcome to Precalculus!

Course objectives: first, to teach basic mathematical concepts to students with any mathematical background; second prepare students for later Calculus courses.

Required book: David Cohen's "Precalculus", 6th Edition, West Publishing Company, ISBN: 0-314-06921-6. There is also a customized version of this book which is cheaper and can be found at Slug bookstore.

3-21 – Provisional final scores and grades are posted below. Here’s the table used to calculate the provisional final grade. Let Bruno know before tomorrow 4pm if you have any questions. Check all the grades and calculations!

F: <66% in final score or final exam.

D: 60%< final exam <66% and final score > 60%.

C: final exam >= 66% and 66 <= final score <69.5%.

B-: final exam >= 66% and 69.5% <=  final score <74.5%.

B: final exam >= 66% and 74.5% <=  final score <79.5%.

B+: final exam >= 66% and 79.5% <=  final score <84.5%.

A-: final exam >= 66% and 84.5% <=  final score <89.5%.

A: final exam >= 66% and 89.5% <=  final score <94.5%.

A+: final exam >= 66% and 94.5% <=  final score =<100%.

3-13 (Tuesday) – Extra office hour with Chris from 1:30-2:30pm.

 

 

3-14 (Wednesday) – Review class and instructor+TA evals.

 

 

3-16 (Friday) – Office hour with Bruno from 1:00-2:00pm and homework is due at5:00pm.

 

 

3-19 (Monday) – Review section from 5:00-6:00pm with Bruno.

 

 

3-20 (Tuesday) – Final exam at 8:00am in class. Don’t forget the scantron form!

 

 

3-21 or 22 (Wednesday or Thursday morning) – Provisional final grades published online.

 

 

3-22 (Thursday) – Bruno is available from 10:00am to 4:00pm to address issues with provisional final grade.

At 5:00pm provisional final grades become oficial.

 

3-8. Chris will hold an extra office hour this Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30pm.

2-28. Once again our apologies for not being able to hand back the homework. These are the times we you can pick it up in the next few days: Thursday from 1-2pm at Chris’s office, Friday from 10-10:45am at Bruno’s office, in class, or from 1pm to 3pm at Bruno’s office. Let Bruno know if you need to come over at another time.

2-7. Midterm scores are available below. Course average is above usual, but there are a lot of people who need to find out the reasons behind their low scores. A lot of work lies ahead.

Provisional final scores . Note: The worst homework score was dropped and the worst quiz score was also dropped in the calculation of the final score. Also, homework #10 and quiz #10 couldn’t be graded in time, so everyone got 100% in these. In the next first few hours we might change the list slightly to correct typos and such, but if all your scores check and if you can confirm the calculation of the final score, you final score will not change.
