The ACCESS Scholarship program is open only to students at the freshman level. To be considered for an ACCESS award, students must apply to UC Santa Cruz using the general UC Application for Admissions during the application filing period November 1-30. Students being considered for an ACCESS scholarship may be asked to submit additional materials.
The ACCESS Scholarship program provides two-year scholarships of up to $10,000 for each year to high-achieving, financially disadvantaged students, particularly women, pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering at the Baskin School of Engineering, UC Santa Cruz.
ACCESS Scholars Receive:
- Up to $20,000 in scholarship support ($10,000 each year for two years)
Students Review a Presentation
- Affiliation with an engineering residential community at Crown College, UCSC
- Participation in a community of ACCESS scholars with a common first-year curriculum
- Faculty and Peer Mentorship
- Support and advisement for career development and graduate school preparation
ACCESS Scholarship Eligibility:
- Freshman admitted to UC Santa Cruz for fall quarter 2009
- Declared major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering or have indicated the undeclared advising cluster “Engineering and Computing”
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Have documented financial need as determined by the UCSC Financial Aid Office
ACCESS Scholarship Selection Criteria:
- Academic Merit (high school courses and grades, test scores, personal essay)
A Student Displays a Lab Project
- Financial Need (students must complete FAFSA application to be considered)
- Professionalism (motivation, communication skills, leadership potential)
- Educationally disadvantaged (1st generation college student, students in foster care, participation in academic preparation programs—MESA, EAOP, COSMOS, etc.)
