Professional
William Dunbar received the B.S. degree in
Engineering Science and Mechanics (summa cum laude) from the
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1997, the M.S. degree in
Applied Mechanics and Engineering Science from the University of California, San Diego, in 1999, and
the Ph.D. in Control and Dynamical Systems from the California Institute of Technology in 2004.
He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer
Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Prof. Dunbar's research areas include distributed receding horizon control, and
applications of optimization-based motion planning in air traffic control. Through a National Institutes
of Health, National Human Genome Research Institute
K25 retraining grant
($700K), he is exploring the application of feedback control for nanopore-based sequencing and single-molecule sensing and
manipulation.
