Andrew Kern's Homepage
Hi there. I am a Postdoctoral scholar working in the laboratory
of Dr. David
Haussler, in the Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering
at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Before postdocing at UCSC, I did my Ph. D.
work with Drs. David Begun and John Gillespie in the Center for Population Biology at the University of California, Davis.
&lowast Starting in July I will be part of the faculty at Dartmouth College in beautiful Hanover, New Hampshire. I am currently looking for talented postdocs, graduate students, and technicians, so if you have any interest in working in my lab please send me email with your CV at adk@soe.ucsc.edu
Research Interests
My research focuses on variation among individuals in the genomes of Humans
and Drosophila. In particular I am interested in the role that natural selection
has played in shaping patterns of variation within genomes, and in turn, how
one might learn about the nature of adaptation from studying genetic variation.
Recent projects:
- Estimating the strength of selection in Ultraconserved regions of the Human genome
- Development of population genetic Hidden Markov Models for finding regions of the
genome that are under selection
- Comparative genomics of Humans and Drosophila
